About programme

Media Relations

The term media relations is understood by professional public as a regular communication with media via maintaining good relationships with journalists who are interested in issues of company or public institution. The neutral, positive or negative publicity resulting from critical situations is primarily the consequence of quality of such relationships. Relations with media are based on production and providing the information. The aim of this kind of information is to attract attention of addressed media and subsequently the interest of media content recipients about certain topic regarding the company, organization, its products or services. The term media relations in its narrow sense may also represent creating good relationships with other subjects involved in media communication. Study program media relations is taught in English language as the only program at our faculty.

The graduate of Media Relations is profiled as an expert in communication in the creation of media relations and masters a wide range of knowledge from a number of disciplines, primarily from the areas of mass media and marketing communication, broadened by specific courses of the media relations programme, as well as communication skills and competences. The graduates can find their career opportunities in publishing houses, editorial offices of various types of media, marketing and PR departments, public sector institutions, PR agencies, media agencies, marketing agencies, editorial systems of print, audio, audiovisual and internet media and as media relation experts. The programme is offered in the English language.

Terms of  Admission

How can I apply for?

Based on the Act No. 131/2002 in the Collection of Laws on Universities and its further changes, the principal term of admission process entering is defined as follows:

  • Completed secondary school education or completed professional secondary school education with school leaving exam.

An applicant for bachelor study program who passed the new school leaving exam will be accepted for the studies considering the following conditions:

  • Grades obtained in profile subjects in each individual year of secondary school studies.
  • Having successfully passed the external part of school leaving school in the subject ‘Foreign language’ on B2 or B1 level, having successfully passed bilingual secondary school or having obtained a language certificate on B1– C2 level in accordance with CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference).

Profile subjects: English language, Social studies, Foreign language

  • Applicants who succeed to reach the average evaluation of 1,5 (in Slovak grading system) do not have to undergo admission exams.

To be accepted for bachelor studies the applicant has to (applicable to all study programs):

  • Successfully pass the admission exams.
  • Obtain grades in profile subjects (such as English language, Social studies, Foreign language) in each individual year of studies.
  • Pass the external part of school leaving exam on B2 or B1 level, to pass successfully a bilingual secondary school or obtain a language certificate on B1– C2 level in accordance with CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference).
  • An applicant for bachelor study program who successfully passed the school leaving exam in accordance with the old system has to declare their grades for profile subjects in individual years of study, as well as their grades from school leaving exams.

The admission exam is in written form and it consists of:

  • An exam from general knowledge and field specific knowledge.
  • Foreign language test (English)- applicable for applicants for Media relations.

An applicant may obtain up to 100 points for each part of the admission exams and they also may obtain 100 points in extra for their secondary school studies results.

Accepted will be only those applicants who are listed on the top of quality evaluation list taking into consideration the recommended number of applicants to be accepted for the studies in academic year 2021/2022. The criteria are as follows:

  • overall average evaluation of secondary school studies (year-end evaluation from 1.st to 3.rd year of applicant’s studies and mid-year evaluation from 4.th year of studies),
  • grades for profile subjects for each individual year of studies (Slovak language and literature, English language, Social studies, Foreign language),
  • having passed the external part of school leaving exams on B2 or B1, level, having passed bilingual secondary school or having obtained a language certificate on B1– C2 level in accordance with CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference).

In case, there are more applicants for the bachelor studies meeting the condition of being accepted without undergoing the admission exams compared to the pre-set number of students to be accepted for studies, the quota may be adjusted by the Academic Senate of FMK accordingly.In case there will be foreign applicants interested in the bachelor study program Media relations (an English language study program), those may undergo the exams in English language.

The admission form may be delivered via mail or via Internet and it has to contain the following:

  • Applicant’s CV,
  • paper of evidence proving that the admission fee has been paid (payment is possible by bank transfer only),
  • the applicant who will be finishing their secondary school in academic year 2020/2021 fills in the application form with their grades and average evaluation for each individual year of their studies and they are also asked to fill in their mid-year grades and mid-year average evaluation for the current academic year 2020/2021; in such a case, the secondary school should validate the grades and evaluation by their seal,
  • immediately after school leaving exams, the applicant should address the Department for Studies of FMK with validated school leaving certificate and their year-end certificate with their grades (no later than by the 8th of June 2021). The validation should be done by the CO (Commissioner for Oaths) or by the Municipal Register Office,
  • the applicant who will have finished their secondary school studies before 2020 will address the Faculty with an officially validated year-end evaluation certificates and school leaving certificate,
  • the applicant who attended secondary school abroad (in any other country but Slovakia) is obliged to ask for equivalence based on the guideline of The Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic.

Distance learning

What is the difference?

Studying Media Relations in distance learning way lasts 4 years. Students attend lectures every second Saturday during semester. 

Applicants for distance leaning in bachelor programs will be accepted without further testing up to given quota of students to be accepted based on their qualitative ranking/ order. The current quota is applicable for the academic year 2021/2022.

The admission form may be delivered via mail or via Internet and it has to contain the following:

  • applicant’s CV,
  •  paper of evidence proving that the admission fee has been paid (payment is possible by bank transfer only),
  • officially validated school leaving certificate,
  • the applicant whom will be finishing their secondary school studies in the academic year 2020/2021 is asked to address the Department for Studies of FMK with officially validated school leaving certificate no later than by the June the 12th 2021.

Annual scholar fee for distance learning programs:

Based on the regulation of Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic dated September 6th 2018 that regulates the maximal annual fee for the academic year 2021/2022 for the distance learning programs at public universities that became valid the same day it was proclaimed and based on the suggestion of dean of FMK UCM in Trnava, the rector of UCM in Trnava set the annual fee for distance learning programs as follows:

  • Bachelor study programs: annual fee of 500€ (for 4-year study programs).
