General information

Place: Faculty of Mass Media Communication UCM in Trnava.

The international scientific conference held annually by the Faculty of Mass Media Communication UCM in Trnava has become a traditional event attended and supported by renowned media studies theorists and researchers as well as media professionals. The goal of the conference is to present and exchange the current knowledge and experience reflecting media and trends connected to them nowadays (for more details, please see annotations of the individual sections). 

Conference fee

  • 100 € – a conference paper in English (these papers will be published in conference proceedings, and then submitted for evaluation to renowned international citation databases Web of Science, Scopus, ERIH PLUS, EBSCO, etc. 
  • 70 € – conference papers written in Slovak, Czech or Polish language, or conference papers submitted in different languages (to be published in standard double-blind peer reviewed conference proceedings).

Summary of the most important dates and information:

  • 8th  April 2020 – deadline for filling the registration / annotation submission
  • 1st May 2020 – deadline for submitting your conference papers (having the annotation approved)
  • 22nd April 2020 – date of the conference

1. Merging Reality and Fiction

  • reality and fiction in media contents; fake news, hoaxes and propaganda in the digital environment,
  • objectivity, reliability and plurality of information versus information chaos,
  • journalism in the era of social media and its metamorphoses,
  • epistemology and ontology of the digital media,
  • temporal changes in the cyberspace,
  • media narratives – stories told by news, television dramas or films and their dramatic structure,
  • media entertainment forms blurring boundaries between the real and the fictitious,
  • segments of the media industry and their development trends.

  • media education as an instrument of European (educational) policy,
  • media competence as an essential goal of media (digital) education,
  • ethical and regulatory aspects of media communication,
  • linguistic and discursive means in communicative interactions taking place on the social media.

  • marketing practices taking place on digital platforms,
  • new features of native advertising,
  • messaging platforms as a way of supporting business activities,
  • deepfakes and other aspects of fake news in relation to advertising,
  • challenges of voice and visual search,
  • virtual reality as a marketing platform,
  • augmented reality: improving brands through inspiration,
  • cross-platform play and marketing.

4. Media Culture, Art and Creativity

DISCUSSION TOPICS:

  • development trends of media culture in terms of processes – creativity, production, distribution, reception,
  • value scales, normative and ethical aspects of media culture, socio-cultural influences,
  • flexibility and originality versus stereotyping in media; creative professionals versus creative amateurs,
  • from globalization to glocalization, from glocalization to local ‘oligarchization’ of the media industry,
  • postmodernism, popular culture, popular art – their means of expression and aesthetics of diversity as inspirational sources and parts of media production,
  • cross-platform media creativity: from news to digital games,
  • experimentation and provocation as strategies of raising interest in media creation and engaging the recipient,
  • attractiveness of media culture stigmas – cult of the body, celebrities, juvenilizing, infantilization, individualization, trivialization, narcissism, hedonism and related cultural phenomena.

Guidelines for authors

Submission of annotations: 8th April 2020 Submission of papers: 1st May 2020

Please send your papers in English, Slovak, Czech or other language (a manuscript must not exceed the range of 15 pages) including abstracts, key words (abstracts and key words are to be submitted in two language versions – in original language of the paper and English), illustrations, charts and bibliography in text editor MS Word by the date mentioned above to the e-mail address: megatrends-media(at)fmk.sk.

Text format

  • Font type: Times New Roman
  • Font size: 12 pt
  • Alignment: justified
  • Spacing: 1
  • All margins: top and bottom 2,5 cm, right and left 2 cm.
  • Chart description: above the chart, including the reference.
  • Illustration description: under the illustration, including the reference.
  • Bibliographic references or notes: please use numbered footnotes on the relevant page in accordance with citation rules.

Content arrangement of the paper

Please see paper template available below.

  • Title of the paper in English (14 pt, bold, CAPITAL letters, align centre),
  • Name and surname of the author/authors (14 pt, italics, align centre),
  • Abstract in English – max. 15 lines,
  • Key words in English – max. 10 words,
  • Titles of the chapters (14 pt, bold),
  • Text of the paper,
  • List of references – according to FMK´s citation rules,
  • Contact details – name(s) of the author/authors with full academic degrees, name and address of the affiliated organisation, e-mail(s) of the author/authors (align left).

In case the contributions meet the given requirements, the received papers will be published in peer-reviewed conference proceedings. All texts as submitted must be original, so-far-unpublished (please see the Editorial Policy tab).

Conference outputs:

  • English-written electronic conference proceedings submitted for evaluation to citation databases Web of Science, Scopus, ERIH PLUS, EBSCO (please note that the included texts have to meet all formal, content and ethical requirements related to Anglo-Saxon academic writing; the highest quality of professional translation to English is required).
  • Electronic conference proceedings that include papers submitted by authors who wish to publish their conference contributions in Slovak, Czech, Polish or any other language than in English.

Important notice: We would like to inform the conference participants that all annotations of conference papers will be assessed by the scientific committee of the conference. Please note that the annotations have to match scientific, linguistic, stylistic and ethical criteria related to publishing academic texts of this kind.

„Megatrends and Media“ are scientific peer reviewed conference proceedings published annu­ally by the Faculty of Mass Media Communication at UCM in Trnava. The proceedings are dedicated to present the most significant theoretical, research and professional contributions to the international scientific conference “Megatrends and Media” in order to provide the selected pa­pers with wider scientific and professional recognition.
